Why Online News on Print May Not Be Worth the Paper its Printed On.

Why Online News on Print May Not Be Worth the Paper its Printed On.

Does news on the internet about print media have an ulterior motive?

Back in August, the Globe and Mail's media reporter Steve Ladurantaye tweeted a picture of a print ad from that day's print and online version of the paper that Google had taken out to promote its search advertising business.

Apparently
Google ran this ad in both the Globe‘s print and digital editions, as well as in the National Post, another national Canadian newspaper.

Ladurantaye's tweet had the caption,

“An ad for Google ads in today’s Globe demonstrates the value of print ads, yes?”

However, the editorial team at Mashable decided this didn't fit the narrative and instead titled their coverage of the item as:

Google Buys Newspaper Ad to Show Why Newspaper Ads Don’t Work

Simple bad choice of headline or shameless journalistic self-promotion? We pick the latter.
